DREAMS ARE GOALS WITH DEADLINES

There’s a sticker note by my side which reads “One day or Day one”, it is an absolute reminder to stop procrastinating… Motivation and discipline are two concepts that are often used interchangeably when we discuss personal achievement and success, but they are actually quite different. Experiencially, I have come to understand the difference between motivation and discipline, which has been helpful in developing strategies for achieving my set goals. Motivation is a feeling or state of mind that drives you to take action. It is the internal force that propels you towards your goals, and it can come from a variety of sources, including inspiration, passion, desire, or the prospect of reward or recognition. Motivation is often fueled by external factors, such as praise or positive feedback from others, and it can fluctuate depending on your mood, energy level, or circumstances. Inspiration: Inspiration comes from external factors that stimulate your creativity, imagination, or curiosity. It might come from reading a book, watching a movie, or listening to music. Passion: Passion is an intense feeling of enthusiasm or excitement about something that drives you to pursue it with all your heart. It might come from a hobby, a career, or a cause that you care deeply about. Desire: Desire is a strong feeling of wanting something that motivates you to take action. It might come from a desire for success, recognition, or personal fulfilment. Reward: Reward is the prospect of achieving a desirable outcome, such as money, fame, or a sense of accomplishment. It can be a powerful motivator for some people. While motivation can be a powerful force that drives you towards your goals, it can also be fickle and fleeting. Motivation can be influenced by external factors, such as praise or criticism, and it can fluctuate depending on your mood or energy level. This is why discipline is also important. Discipline, on the other hand, is a practice or habit that requires effort and self-control. It is the ability to consistently take action, even when you don't feel motivated or inspired. It is the ability to stick to a routine, follow through on your commitments, Discipline is often driven by internal factors, such as a sense of duty or responsibility, and it is essential for achieving long-term success, such as: Responsibility: Responsibility is the sense of duty or obligation to do something that is expected of you. It might come from your job, your family, or your community. Self-control: Self-control is the ability to resist temptation or delay gratification for a greater purpose. It might come from a desire for self-improvement or personal growth. Focus: Focus is the ability to concentrate your attention on a specific task or goal. It might come from a desire for clarity or productivity. Discipline is essential for achieving long-term success because it allows you to keep working towards your goals even when motivation wanes. It is the habit of doing something consistently, even when it is difficult or unpleasant. Discipline can be developed and strengthened over time, and it can become a natural part of your routine and lifestyle.

"Believe you can and you're halfway there." - Theodore Roosevelt

In all honesty, motivation provides the initial drive and inspiration to get started, but only halfway. while discipline provides the consistency and perseverance to keep going. While motivation is important for getting started on a new project or goal, discipline is what keeps you moving forward even when things get tough. For example, you might feel motivated to exercise after watching a motivational video, but it is your discipline that will keep you going to the gym every day. To achieve your goals, it's important to find a balance between motivation and discipline. You need motivation to get started and set your sights on your goals, but you also need discipline to stick to your plan and stay on track, even when motivation wanes. By understanding the difference between these two concepts, you can develop strategies for cultivating both motivation and discipline, and use them to achieve your goals and live a fulfilling life.

Hearty Cheers!!!
